Clock will have continuous. The issue is you need to find a switched ignition wire that stays hot while cranking. Get out a test light and poke the ignition wires while cranking. If it stays lit, there is your source.

Clock works except when the key is at OFF.

It still has power, only the lighting is not powered when off. It also switches off at crank, but the time delay is not visible.

How do I make my head unit not shut off every time I start the car?

Bypass the fuse box and wire directly to the battery? Not sure if that's a good idea though...

It will still most likely happen. Starter uses a bunch of volts and HUs protect themselves.

Good point. Sounds like a waste of time trying to bypass it anyway.

The starter has nothing to do with it. It's the way the ignition is wired. The switched lead opens during the cranking cycle.

Here is a list of celebrities, sponsors, and vendors who have pulled out of the Reed Exhibits Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show in Harrisburg, PA for 2013. The show was set to run from Feb 2-10, 2013 and usually attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors.

This however will not be the case this year as they have made an announcement that they will not support our Second Amendment Rights as Hunters, Shooting Sports Enthusiasts, Gun Owner, and AMERICANS ! We at MyNortheastOutdoors.com decided it was time to take a stand, and have enjoyed the support of the following businesses and entities listed below.

Good point. Sounds like a waste of time trying to bypass it anyway.

The starter has nothing to do with it. It's the way the ignition is wired. The switched lead opens during the cranking cycle.

We were more interested in what would happen to the head unit when the starter is running (temp voltage drop).

Weird. My HU is right to the batt and still cuts out on start up.........

X2 I'm pretty sure it cuts off at start to protect some sort of Under or Over voltage problems. Maybe if you had another battery source or possibly wire it to a cap?

Your entire truck is an electrical gremlin. The HU should not shut off unless you're around 10 volts. If you're dropping that low at startup, you need a new battery, or something us wrong with your starter.

. Nope.

Real simple guys. Take a test light and hook it up to your HU's power wire. Turn the ignition on, it will light up. Crank the car, it will open that circuit.

Not saying you are wong, but it happened on my jetta too.

Of course it cuts off when cranking. it's attached to an accessory wire. As already stated the only wire besides constant that remained powered when cranking is an ignition wire.

what vehicle is it.

All electronics have an operating range. Fall below or above that voltage and it won't work.

But not all ignition wires remain closed in the crank position.

Even some bimmers I installed on

If you have indeed run the power wire straight to the battery, the units were suffering from undervoltage at startup or a switched ground that opened on crank.

I don't mean wires in the ignition harness. I mean the actual "ignition" wire.

pucking chevy, they don't know how to correctly name an accessory wire.

Gotta watch that test light too. I've personally seen a data bus system fry.

And on another note some smart ass at dodge decided to make the rear speakers wires and the airbag wires the same colors. I had an installer snip a pair in the kick panel of a brand new caravan because he was too lazy to pull the rear quarter panel to bypass the amp. Let out every damn airbag on the passenger side. dash, roof, and seats. Brand new dealership vehicle was totaled with 5 mile on it.
